Review units of the Retroid Pocket 6 have now begun to arrive in the hands of creators, giving us our first detailed look at this highly awaited Android handheld console. Despite a few production setbacks, everything currently appear to be on track to ship, and early impressions are exactly what a lot of retro gaming lovers have been hoping for.

The Pocket 6 is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that was used in high-end phones a few years ago. With 8GB or 12GB of fast LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage (128GB or 256GB as standard, but extendable via microSD), this machine promises to operate smoothly on just about any demanding emulation task you throw at it. Early hands-on videos show PS2, GameCube, and even some Wii titles running smoothly, and it appears that there is still some room for greater resolutions and upscaling in many cases. Of course, Android 13 is the underlying OS, with the added benefit of certified over-the-air updates to keep the software up to speed.

Up front, the device features a 5.5-inch AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 1080p. The colors appear fantastic, compared to other handhelds, and the blacks remain deep in the clips that have been shared, while the improved refresh rate makes a huge difference in scrolling menus and fast-paced games.

The battery size is 6000mAh, which is a significant improvement over previous Retroid models. Active cooling helps manage heat during extended play sessions, allowing you continuous performance without the throttle getting the best of you. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 handle wireless connections seamlessly, making streaming from your computer or cloud services a breeze.

The controls follow a typical asymmetric configuration, with the option of using analog sticks or a D-pad on top, depending on how you like to configure your PC. The analog sticks feature Hall-effect technology to prevent drift over time, while the complete analog L2/R2 triggers provide a little more precision when it’s truly needed. The build quality is good in the hands-on videos, and it feels lovely and comfortable to carry, with a design that slips comfortably into slightly larger pockets. Retroid, as expected, has provided a variety of color options, ranging from the simple black and silver to the more colorful orange and light purple.

Pricing starts at $229 for the 8GB/128GB device and rises to roughly $279 for the 12GB/256GB version, depending on the configuration desired. Pre-orders have been open for several months, but the business has had to make a few supply chain tweaks, including a recent focus on OLED screen calibration. The initial shipment was sent out in limited numbers beginning January 2026, with more to come shortly after.
