Manchester United’s decision to sack Ruben Amorim will have no affect on the future of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and other members of the former manager’s bomb squad.

Amorim lost his job on Monday morning following a string of poor performances and a fall-out with those above him at Old Trafford.

At the time of Amorim’s dismissals, Manchester United were sixth in the Premier League, three points outside the Champions League places.

That represented a marked improvement from a team who finished 15th last season but United won just one of Amorim’s final five matches, drawing at home to bottom-placed Wolves and then dropping points to Leeds in what turned out to be his final game in charge.

Despite his sacking, Amorim is believed to have been fairly well-liked by the squad at Old Trafford, many of whom wished him well on social media after the news broke.

But some will be more than happy to see the back of the ex-Sporting manager.

Kobbie Mainoo, for example, has been tipped to revive his stuttering Manchester United career now Amorim, who often overlooked him, has departed.

Several members of Amorim’s bomb squad may also allow themselves wry smiles at the news their former boss has lost his job.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund all fall into that category, but Amorim’s sacking is unlikely to lead to any of their returns, according to The Sun.

It is claimed Manchester United fully backed Amorim’s decision to offload Rashford, Sancho, Onana and Hojlund and are therefore not planning to bring any of them back to the club.

The most tempting player to welcome back will likely be Rashford following his bright form on loan at Barcelona.

But the England winger has repeatedly stressed he hopes to earn a permanent move to the Nou Camp rather than return to his boyhood club.

Jadon Sancho, who cost United £73m back in 2021, is currently on loan at Aston Villa following a mixed spell at Chelsea last season.

Sancho’s contract finally expires this summer and United will then move him on having failed to receive a fee for the former Champions League finalist.

Hojlund spent two underwhelming seasons at the Theatre of Dreams following his £72m move from Atalanta but has improved since joining Napoli on loan.

The Denmark international has scored six goals in 13 league games to help Antonio Conte’s side stay in touch at the top of Serie A.

Like Rashford, Hojlund is keen to turn his loan spell into a permanent transfer and sees his long-term future away from Manchester United.

Goalkeeper Onana moved to Trabzonspor after losing his place at United, first to Altay Bayindir and then to current first-choice shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

Given Lammens has been widely hailed for his performances this season and seemingly established himself as United’s long-term No. 1, Onana will be moved on.

Mainoo was heavily linked with a January loan before Amorim’s sacking but is expected to stay put and get more minutes under the next manager.

Gary Neville, the Manchester United legend, has urged Mainoo to stay and fight for a place in the team.

‘I’ve seen United’s young players over the last few years, I’ve seen a few of them leave the club and excel so I’m maybe not the right person to advise him,’ Neville told Sky Sports.

‘My view would be that you should fight to stay at the club every single day of your life.

‘Having that badge on your shirt is an absolute privilege and an honour, and you can never, in my view, have a bad day when you’re wearing the Manchester United badge on your shirt.’

Darren Fletcher has been placed in temporary charge of the Red Devils while United look for a short and long-term replacement for Amorim.

Either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Michael Carrick are expected to get the caretaker job until the end of the season, while Olivier Glasner and Thomas Tuchel are the frontrunners for the permanent role.
