Gary Neville slams ‘really poor’ Arsenal star who did ‘nothing’ against Liverpool | Football
Gary Neville accused ‘ineffective’ Viktor Gyokeres of ‘offering nothing’ during Arsenal’s Premier League draw with Liverpool.
Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal last summer in a £64m deal from Sporting, endured another disappointing evening for the Gunners in the goalless stalemate.
The 27-year-old struggled to make an impact against Liverpool defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate before being replaced by Gabriel Jesus with half an hour remaining.
Another blank means Gyokeres has now gone 11 games without a goal in open play, while he now has just five goals in 18 Premier League games.
As the board went up indicating Gyokeres was being subbed off, Neville said on Sky Sports: ‘Not a surprise, that.
‘He’s been ineffective, and that’s being kind. It’s a really poor night from him, he offered nothing.
‘Look, there’s not getting service and then there’s getting involved in the game and doing more – and he needed to do more.’

Much was expected of Gyokeres when he swapped Portuguese champions Sporting for Premier League title contenders Arsenal.
But Gyokeres has flattered to deceive for a team that have become the clear favourites to win a league title for the first time since 2004.
Earlier this week Declan Rice leaped to the defence of Gyokeres and insisted Arsenal would not be leading the title race without the contributions of the £64m summer signing.
But Arsenal legend Paul Merson is among those to raise concerns over Gyokeres and even said the fact he is ‘not a natural goalscorer’ could end up costing the Gunners in the business end of the season.
‘I don’t think Arsenal have a natural goalscorer,’ Merson said on Sky Sports. ‘Gyokeres has come in and is supposed to be that player, but I don’t think he’s a natural goalscorer.
‘He’s never tapping balls in, he’s not got a lot of goals, full-stop. When it gets down to those last eight games, and it gets so nervy, you might need that something out of nothing.
‘They need a natural goalscorer, and I think the nearest they have is Gabriel Jesus. He goes with Gyokeres before him, and I think he’ll go with [Kai] Havertz before him when he comes back. That’s the one for me.’
Speaking after Arsenal’s draw with Liverpool, Roy Keane said: ‘Liverpool didn’t deserve more than what they got because obviously, you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net.
‘They lacked that cutting edge. I was worried about their midfield before the game, I shouldn’t have been. They controlled it.
‘Liverpool were by far the better team. For Arsenal, there was a bit of tension in the air as the game went on. It’s not great for them, but listen, you take the point and move on.’
