OneXSugar Wallet Aims to be the Foldable Handheld That Shrinks Retro Gaming

One-Netbook, the company behind the OneXPlayer range of gaming devices, has released a new model under the OneXSugar name. This time, the handheld is called the OneXSugar Wallet. Instead of just another large display, they’ve chosen a clever folding OLED panel that folds in half, transforming a full-size monitor into something small enough to fit in a pocket or wallet.
When you open it, you’ll see an 8.01-inch OLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2480 x 1860 pixels. That square-ish view is intended for older games, particularly those from systems such as the PS Portable or Game Boy Advance, which were initially designed for comparable proportions. The screen folds as smooth as silk around a center crease, and when flattened, you can’t tell where it was bent; there’s no unsightly gap to speak of. Controls are located on each side, with a D-pad and face buttons on one half and low-profile analog sticks and shoulder buttons built into the sides on the other.

Fold it up, and the clamshell design protects the screen while compressing the entire thing down to a pocket-sized size. The rounded sides and the way the hinge tucks in give it a surprisingly small feel, like a thick glasses case rather than a full-fledged gaming computer. Even when folded up, a few small vents and elevated shoulder buttons indicate that it is a gaming device, and its mobility is something of a novelty in a category where most gadgets require a bag or a large pocket to transport.

The folding mechanism appears to be inspired by the latest foldable smartphones, but they’ve put it to use in a gaming handheld. Unfold it to reveal a continuous panel that software may split into two virtual displays, ideal for mimicking games that originally came with twin screens, such as the Nintendo DS or 3DS. Because there is no bezel in the middle, controls and game elements just flow over the crease, with no unpleasant edges to contend with.
The Wallet, which runs on Android, is all about emulation and native mobile games, and One-Netbook has optimized it for retro play, making use of the 4:3 ratio to provide exact scaling without black bars or stretching. Of course, larger games like PS2 and GameCube titles should run nicely on the large screen if the hardware inside is adequate to the task (more on this later).

One thing we don’t know is the hardware powering the Wallet, as there’s no word yet on the processor, RAM, storage options, battery life, or connectivity options. You can bet they’ll debut it in 2026, most likely in the summer or fall, considering how far along the prototype appears to be.
