Sophie Turner Cast as Lara Croft in New Tomb Raider Prime Video Series

Prime Video’s latest contribution to the never-ending Lara Croft universe is a whole new live-action series called Tomb Raider, but this time fans hope it will be a smash hit. Sophie Turner is taking on the role of the renowned adventurer and archaeologist.
Filming has begun, and to celebrate, Prime Video has released a sneak peek of Turner dressed as Lara Croft. She’s wearing the classic 90s look that every Tomb Raider fan will recognize: shorts, a teal top, pistols strapped to her thighs, a braided ponytail, those iconic 90s style red-tinted sunglasses perched on top of her head, and a leather backpack slung over her shoulder; you can’t mistake Lara.

Sophie Turner feels a sense of homecoming. She’s been a longtime fan of Lara, and the character’s tenacity and determination in a male-dominated sector appeals to her. According to Turner, the security on site is extremely tight, with numerous layers of passwords and facial recognition required just to get your hands on the screenplay, making it far more intense than Game of Thrones.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is now in command here, as creator, writer, EP, and one half of the showrunning pair, and she has a lot of firepower to back her up. Chad Hodge is her co-showrunner and EP, Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing and producing, and they have a whole team of other creative minds on board, including Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Story Kitchen, Legendary Television, and her own production company, Wells Street Films.
The supporting cast is also looking pretty good, with Sigourney Weaver playing Evelyn Wallis, a strong and mysterious character with some questionable motivations, Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle Atlas DeMornay, Bill Paterson as Lara’s faithful butler Winston, and Martin Bobb-Semple as Lara’s tech-savvy sidekick Zip. In addition, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, August Wittgenstein, and John Heffernan appear in a few other roles, making for a rather impressive cast.
