iPhone Lock Screen Mirror Concept is Just a Simple Touch Away

iPhone Lock Screen Mirror Concept Yaku Zeg
Yaku Zeg, aka Jakub Zegzulka, has a feature that could change how we use our iPhones. His idea is the Lock Screen Mirror. It solves a common problem: the time consuming process of checking yourself out with the front camera. That currently involves unlocking the iPhone, launching the camera app, and switching to the front-facing camera, a seemingly excessive number of steps for such a simple task. Zegzulka’s solution is straightforward: a long press on the camera icon on the lock screen displays a mirror-like view from the front camera, allowing you to quickly check your hair, teeth, or overall appearance without having to browse through multiple screens.

The sequence starts with a regular lock screen that shows the time, 9:41, on a plain background. A hand is holding the phone and a finger is hovering over the camera icon in the bottom right corner. As the finger presses down the screen changes to show a circular frame in the middle of the screen that shows a live feed from the front camera. Going back to the lock screen is just as easy, just release the finger.

Zegzulka’s tech credentials, including work at Apple, Meta and OpenAI, give his idea some weight. His idea addresses a universal need: the quick check before a meeting, date or other social engagement. The Lock Screen Mirror doesn’t add new apps or complicate the UI, it just improves an existing feature. The interaction is in its simplicity, a long press, check, release.

Apple hasn’t responded to the request yet but the discussion it sparked shows there’s a desire for more intentional integrations that make the device better without confusing it. Zegzulka didn’t stop with basic functionality, as he also experimented with more advanced features such as a “sticky” center stage that locks your face in the middle of the frame, similar to Apple’s Center Stage for video chats.
