Conor Benn crushes Chris Eubank Jr in rematch to get revenge over bitter rival
Conor Benn has secured his revenge over Chris Eubank Jr with a dominant victory in their grudge rematch.
30 years after their fathers shared one of the most engrossing chapters in the history of British boxing, Eubank Jr secured a points victory over his rival in their first showdown last April.
Six months on, another defeat for Benn would have been hugely damaging for the 29-year-old. But a a masterful performance that included a devastating knockdown in the final round from Benn erased those memories.
Eubank Snr and Nigel Benn fought twice in 1990 and 1993 but never got the chance for a third fight. Talk of a trilogy for the sons was rampant even before the rematch, but such was the dominance Benn showed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, there may be no need.
After years of venom between the sons of boxing royalty, Benn and Eubank Jr embraced after the former was declared winner by unanimous decision, arguably winning every round on the night.
While Eubank Jr suggested a third fight could be explored, Benn declared the family feud over.
Benn looked wild, overawed and overpowered in the first fight six months ago. The story couldn’t have been more different this time around, delivering a systematic beatdown that broke Eubank Jr’s spirit.
The Ilford fighter, who moved up two divisions for this fight, boxed masterfully from the opening round with Eubank Jr slow, gun-shy and devoid of ideas.
This was a different Conor Benn, finding control and poise to accompany the aggression that has always been part of his game.
Peppering his opponent with body shots, Benn was already out of sight by the time Eubank Jr was able to throw something back in response.
Eubank Jr needed a knockout as the fight lurched into the 12th round. Instead, it was Benn who provided the late fireworks, triumphantly putting his man down twice.
Eubank Jr survived the onslaught but the night had been Benn’s from the first round.

Benn dances in and out again, Eubank hasn’t been able to deal with that all fight long.
To add insult to injury, Benn swerves a shot from Eubank and effortlessly toss him to the mat, almost out of the ring. It sums it all up.

A big right hand again from Benn thunders around the stadium. Eubank lurches forward to try and counter but it’s slow and too aimless.

A vicious flurry blasts Eubank again – there is such venom in those shots from Benn who smells blood now.
Eubank’s mouthguard flies out after another tight exchange – he has a look up at the big screen to see how long is left here.
Benn counters with a lovely right over the top but towards the end Eubank finally throws something meaningful! Not enough for him to claim the round for us, but could it be the start of something?

Benn wades in again, blasting the body with Eubank too slow to respond. Eubank looks physically weak in there, uncomfortable and a bit lost.
Benn crashes a huge right off Eubank’s jaw right at the end of the round. It sparks a bit of life into his rival who responds well but Benn walks away laughing.

Eubank’s jab has been well off it, he needs to find some rhythm or Benn could disappear out of sight.

Another stabbing jab to the body from Benn, jumping out of the way to avoid the counter shots at ease. Nothing wild about this performance.
Eubank comes back though and narrowly misses with a big uppercut.

It’s all very wild here at the start of the second, Benn is sent tumbling to the floor by Eubank and the referee pulls both men in for a talking too.
Another heavy body shot comes in from Benn, following it up with another to the gut. It’s a clear game plan, targeting Eubank’s body and he is struggling to deal with Benn’s hand speed right now.
A shot up stairs send Eubank scampering backwards right at the end.
