First Masters of the Universe Trailer Released, Hits Theaters on June 5

The new Masters of the Universe movie, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, will hit theaters on June 5, 2026. Travis Knight, the same director who brought us Bumblebee, is in charge of this live-action adaptation of the beloved 1980s toy line and animated series, so we have high hopes for this film. Nicholas Galitzine plays both Prince Adam and He-Man, while Jared Leto demonstrates his ability to bring genuine evil to the screen as the iconic Skeletor.
The plot revolves around Prince Adam, who has been abroad from his home planet Eternia for 15 years. Something called the Sword of Power entices him back, but this time Eternia is a complete disaster. Skeletor is to blame for this, as he has gained complete control of the town. Adam reunites with his old pals, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and they all work together to save his family and restore some balance to the planet. Along the process, Adam has to come to terms with his destiny as He-Man, the universe’s most powerful being.

We got a first look at some early footage, and it shows Adam stuck in a mundane office job, going through the motions until the sword appears and drags him into all this interplanetary drama. As he transforms into He-Man, we get to watch some major action, including muscle flexing and spectacular battles. We’ve also got some magnificent scenery to enjoy, like as rolling hills, ancient castles, and sweeping skies, and the action scenes are filled with sword fights, energy blasts, and the heroic stances you’d expect from He-Man and his friends.

Skeletor is as terrifying as you’d expect, with Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie) plotting against him, and he’s joined by a crew of villains including Trap Jaw, Tri-Klops, and Goat Man (Hafthor Bjornsson), who make things much more difficult for Adam. On the good guys’ side, the Sorceress (Morena Baccarin) and the robotic Roboto (voiced by Kristen Wiig) enter the conflict, as do supporting characters Fisto, Ram-Man, and Moss Man.

Travis Knight adds a feeling of breadth to the film, and the special effects contribute to the creation of an incredible universe that feels real and lived-in, rather than outmoded. The colors are vibrant, and the bouts are filled with energy and weight. The trailer strikes a good balance between nostalgia and new concepts, depicting Adam developing into the hero he needs to be.

There are also more famous faces in the film, including James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley as King Randor and Queen Marlena, as well as newcomers Sasheer Zamata and Christian Vunipola, who imply that some new characters may have greater screen time. After all of the changes and studio shuffles this project has seen, it’s great to have Knight at the helm, promising a film that’s as much about the spectacle as the characters. Galitzine appears to have bulked up for the role, Leto delivers some serious menace as Skeletor, and the rest of the ensemble appears to be prepared to carry the entire affair.
