A number of Manchester United players believe influential teammate Bruno Fernandes has already decided to leave the club this summer.

Fernandes has been linked with an Old Trafford exit in each of the last four transfer windows, with clubs in Saudi Arabia interested in securing his signature.

It was last summer when Fernandes came closest to leaving after Al-Hilal indicated they were willing to pay a fee of around £100m and wages of up to £700,000-a-week.

Fernandes rejected the lucrative move, insisting he was keen to keep playing at the highest level, but that has not deterred Al-Hilal and other Saudi Pro League sides from future moves.

According to The Sun, there is a feeling in the Old Trafford squad that Fernandes will finally be prised away from United this summer.

While Fernandes’ future at the club was never tied to Ruben Amorim, the head coach’s unconvincing reign and subsequent sacking has only underlined the notion that United are continuing to stagnate.

Other players may be willing to bide their time and hope things improve under Amorim’s replacement but some United stars believe Fernandes has ‘had enough’ and is ‘tired of the turmoil’.

As a result there is a strong belief Fernandes is playing his final season for Manchester United and will find a new club after this summer’s World Cup.

A source told The Sun: ‘Some of the squad think Bruno has had enough and, to be honest, they don’t blame him. He always gives 100 per cent and has been the club’s best player since he joined.

‘But they think that he feels let down under the new ownership model and Amorim leaving has not helped. He isn’t a likely candidate for a big-money move to Saudi because he’s a football purist.

‘But no one can doubt from the moment he signed for Manchester United, he has given his all. No one wants him to leave – but his team-mates would understand if he did.’

Fernandes, who joined United in 2020 in a £47m deal from Portuguese giants Sporting, is contracted to the Red Devils until the summer of 2027.

Last month a bombshell interview with Fernandes was released in which he claimed Manchester United ‘wanted’ to sell him in the summer.

‘From the club I felt it was, “‘If you go it’s not so bad for us”. It hurts me a bit,’ Fernandes, one of the best players in the Premier League, said.

‘More than hurting me, it makes me sad. I’m a player that no-one can criticise, I’m always available, I always give my best.

‘I could have left in this transfer window, I would have earned much more money.

‘I would have won many trophies this season, but I decided not to go, not only for family reasons but because I genuinely love the club.’

Fernandes’ Portuguese compatriot Amorim lost his job at Old Trafford a week ago.

Darren Fletcher has been placed in interim charge of the side until Manchester United appoint a caretaker manager that will take the reins until the summer.

Fletcher, who won five Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, is in contention for the caretaker job along with fellow United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
