Jake Paul flaunts ‘winnings’ after having jaw smashed by Anthony Joshua
Jake Paul might be on a liquid diet for the foreseeable future after his knockout defeat against Anthony Joshua, but the pain of a broken jaw is likely to be eased by his enormous earnings.
The former heavyweight champion laboured to a sixth-round victory over the Youtuber-turned-boxer on Saturday in what was a largely ugly spectacle.
To his credit, Paul emerged with a measure of credit and took the fight deeper than anyone, Joshua included, expected although he was unable to land a telling punch and resorted to some desperate delaying tactics.
When Joshua eventually found his range the fight came to its inevitable conclusion with a dazed and confused Paul counted by referee Christopher Young.
In his ring interview afterwards, Paul revealed the extent of the damage, spitting out blood before saying: ‘I’m feeling good, that was fun.love this sport. I gave it my all… I had a blast.
‘Anthony’s a great fighter, I got my ass beat but that’s what this sport’s about.
‘I think my jaw is broke by the way… it’s definitely broke. A nice ass whooping from one of the best to ever do it.
‘We’re going to heal the broken jaw, fight someone my weight and go for the cruiserweight world title.’
How Anthony Joshua rated Jake Paul’s boxing
While few were predicting a contest between a world class fighter and a game, but essentially limited amateur would end in anything other thank a knockout win for the favourite, Jake Paul was widely praised for his courage and cohunes.
Joshua, himself, was taken aback at first by the American’s gameplan and took more time than was expected before he was able to detonate the right hand punch that emphatically ended the contest.
Still, the Brit was impressed with his opponent and believes he still has a future in the sport, saying: ‘Jake has spirit, he has some heart. He tried his best and I take my hat off to him. A lot of fighters haven’t got in the ring with me and Jake Paul did.
‘Even when he got knocked down he kept on trying to get up and I take my hat off to him. America I think you have someone who potentially if he still has the heart for it come back and dust the dirt off his shoulder maybe sell out this centre some time in 2026.
‘Maybe against a Gervonta Davis a Ryan Garcia. Who knows?’
The 28-year-old subsequently posted from his hospital bed and proudly displayed and X-ray that showed his damaged jaw had been broken in two places.
By Sunday evening, however, the pain appeared to have been washing away after he took to Instagram again to post a picture of himself on a private jet, surrounding by wads of cash.
The picture, which also displayed him toting a golden gun was accompanied with a caption which read: ‘The American Dream. Start yours today.
‘Believe in it. Fail. Work. Fail. Learn. Fail. Don’t ever stop.’
How Much did Jake Paul earn from Anthony Joshua fight?
Given the reported sums of money involved in the fight, it’s no wonder Paul is such a strong advocate of the American Dream.
After the shock fight announcement in November, initial reports suggested Joshua and Paul would split a prize pot of around £140million.
Paul appeared to confirm that figure is substantially higher, however.
The American seemingly revealed the real sum last month when he tweeted: ‘Stop asking me. $267 Million.’
That works out at £206m so just over a cool £100m for each man.
